Support Services

Adoption Rhode Island has a growing, strength-based Child and Family Support Program. Services have been custom-designed with a particular individual or group in mind. We have unique programs for waiting children, children who have been adopted, adoptive families, waiting families and adoption professionals. New creative and flexible services continue to evolve to meet the many different needs for support throughout the adoption process.
Adoption Rhode Island provides:
  • Home and office based counseling
  • Education and support groups for children and families
  • Outreach, information and referrals
  • Adoption preparation and disruption prevention services
  • Assessment, education and support to foster families considering adoption and throughout the adoption process
  • Kinship Care services

Family Hope Series
Adoption Rhode Island and DCYF presents our new for 2012 Family Hope Series - Monthly workshops for foster, adoptive and kinship parents. Workshops, being held at Adoption RI on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00-8:30pm, will provide information and support on a number of popular issues. For a schedule of workshops click here. Mom's Group
The current session of Adoption Rhode Island's Mom's Group is winding down, however another session will be in the works after the holidays. If you are an adoptive mom (or soon to be) who'd like to to join others for supportive discussions on parenting issues and experiences, please contact Beth Capron at Adoption Rhode Island: 401-865-6000 or bcapron@adoptionri.org.

Dad's Group
Adoption Rhode Island is organizing a Dad's Group for adoptive dads (or soon to be) to get together and discuss experiences, challenges, concerns, etc. with other Dad's in similar situations. Discussion Group for Boys
Boys ages 12-16 are invited to join us as we utilize Rap and Hip Hop to explore topics including struggle, loss & strength as well as money, girls and what it means to 'be a man'. Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 4:20-6:00pm and consistent participation is required. For more information contact Adoption Rhode Island at 401-865-6000. br>

EXPRESS YOURSELF! This program, sponsored by Adoption Rhode Island and the Department of Children, Youth and Families, is a series of fun-filled experiential workshops for youth impacted by foster care or adoption. Children participate in a variety of creative projects in a supportive environment while making connections with other children with similar life experiences. Watch this site for upcoming workshops.

The EXPRESS YOURSELF program is a referral-based program. Parents/guardians must remain on site throughout the workshop. Waiting Family Information Sessions
Adoption Rhode Island hosts periodic Waiting Family Information Session for families registered with Adoption RI. Topics of discussion vary to include a number of issues relevant to adopting through state care. Sessions also provide an opportunity to meet the Recruitment and Matching Program Staff, learn about the matching process, what happens to your home study once it is sent to Adoption Rhode Island, what to expect at an adoption party & more. Sessions are designed to be casual and informative. Watch for 2012 sessions to be posted here once finalized. If there is a specific topic you'd like to learn more about, please let us know.
