Carmen and Luis Two great teens, a loving brother and sister, a high school graduate, a student...two kids worried about their future. Carmen and Luis have been in care for a number of years. Carmen has grown up in foster homes, while Luis has moved from residential facility to group home. Luis just graduated from high school and is looking for a job. Carmen is attending high school and working part time in a day care center. Luis is unsure of which direction to go in, and not clear about his own strengths and talents. Carmen is more confident, and not so afraid to put herself out there. Two teens who will age out of the system...soon. In a recent visit with them they talked openly about what this will mean to them. They talked about their options, their fears. They spoke of still being open to a family. Luis said he felt no one would want kids their age, just babies. Carmen said she knew they would always need a family no matter how old they were. They said they would love a visiting resource, who would help them see each other more often. They said they would still love to be part of a family, and always have a place to come home to. Carmen and Luis depended on the system, on all of us, to make their life right; To give them what was taken from them. A family. It is not too late. Contact Judy at Adoption Rhode Island. |
